MOVIE BYU CONVERTER This Converter reads and writes Movie BYU
models.
It adds one entry to the conversion
lists:
Movie BYU *.BYU
Geometry
Movie BYU files allow many-sided polygons. Each file
represents a single object without a name. No hierarchies
are present.
Material attributes
Movie BYU files do not contain any material information.

Import section
The official specification of the BYU file is defined in
terms of FORTRAN language statements. Integer values are
to be stored in fields eight characters wide, ten to a
line. Floating point values are twelve characters wide,
in scientific notation, stored six to a line.
Some Movie BYU were created by programs
with less rigorous methods of storing numbers in a text
file. You can select whether the original object was
created with a FORTRAN or C program.
When FORTRAN is
selected, then the Field widths section
takes effect, controlling the width of the field used to
store integers and floating point coordinates. For
example, some variant MovieBYU files store integers in
five character-wide fields, and floating point values in
ten character fields.
When C is selected, it
is assumed that numeric values are always separated by
tabs and spaces, and that fixed width fields are not
enforced.
Export section
Because BYU files are ASCII, you can control the
line ending.
Background
This file format was originally used by the Movie program
developed at Brigham Young University. Early Cyberware
scanner utilities created models in the Movie BYU format.
